JOINING THE CODING COMMUNITY-A SUPPORTIVE FAMILY

The coding community is one of the most passionate, educated, and ambitious groups that anyone will have the pleasure of working with.  Every coder brings with them a different story, a different journey, a different reason for entering the coding world.  Every story is more intriguing than the last, and the sharing of those stories, and the communication of experiences and knowledge create a rich, supportive community.  I personally owe so much to the coders and mentors who have helped shape my career, and I wanted to find a way to give back to those who haven given so much to me. 

I began Project Resume when I was working as a medical coding manager and recruiter.  In the hiring process, I saw a disconnect from the education and skills that coders had to offer, and the information that was being put forth in resumes and during interviews.  Coders work for months and years to prepare themselves for certification.  To have that education go overlooked because of an unprofessional resume, or because of a bad impression during an interview is something that should never happen.  I realized that coders did not have a dedicated place to seek guidance and education on career development and finding their unique place in the coding world.  And I set out to change that. 

My passion is to see coders succeed, and my hope is that we’ve created a place where coders can go for career advice, support, and education.  My promise to you is an encouragement, knowledge, excitement, and fun.   I have spent years learning about professionalism, resumes, interview skills, and the attributes that coding employees are looking for in candidates.  I have interviewed human resource representatives and coding managers, coders themselves, and I have evaluated code team dynamics.  This blog will serve as an outlet for that information, and I sincerely hope it will be a place you can come to when you’re having a bad day, need a pick-me-up, or just need some quick advice.
